FAO Quotables

"But being right, even morally right, isn't everything. It is also important to be competent, to be consistent, and to be knowledgeable. It's important for your soldiers and diplomats to speak the language of the people you want to influence. It's important to understand the ethnic and tribal divisions of the place you hope to assist."

Pentagon Truth-ism #3 Marine Flags

No flag level officers looker sharper or younger than those in the Marine Corps.  I see them everyday in the halls here and am always impressed...and they can all knock out 10 pullups and run 3 miles.

Below is a link to one of my favorites: Gen 'Lou' Wilson, the father of the modern Marine Corps.  He led the Marine Corps out of a low, dark place after Vietnam.

Yeah, that's a medal of honor there on the top row

  1. One of his nicknames was "One Lung Lou" for injuries sustained in the assault on Guam.

  2. I was in Hawaii when General Wilson was selected to be CMC. Although an aviator, I was the CO/XO of the Marine Barracks at Lualualei. He began running before first light every day. He said, "I can't ask my Marines to do something I can't do". He only had one lung, but before he left Hawaii for DC, he was running the 3 mile PFT successfully. Quite a man and quite a Marine!
